Grosjean: E21 a step forward

An upbeat Romain Grosjean has declared that Lotus's E21 is already a clear step forward over last year's car after driving it for the first time on Day One of the Jerez test. The Frenchman was given the honour of debuting the Enstone team's latest black and gold challenger on the opening day of winter testing, although experienced a slightly delayed start to his day as the team fitted parts onto the chassis. But once out on circuit the 26-year-old was swiftly moving up the nascent timesheet and into the afternoon became the first man to dip below the 1:30 barrier, before eventually being shuffled to third in the final hour.
