Alonso fastest in F1 testing

Former world champion Fernando Alonso went fastest in Thursday morning's session at Barcelona's Catalunya circuit on the third day of testing before the start of the new Formula One season. The Spaniard, second last year to Sebastien Vettel, clocked 1 minute 23.046 seconds in his Ferrari to place ahead of Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado, who timed 1min 22.675secs in his Williams. Australia's Mark Webber was third fastest for Red Bull in 1min 23.406secs with Frenchman Romain Grosjean fourth for Lotus in 1min 24.376secs. The new season opens in Melbourne, Australia on March 17.
