Hamilton plants Mercedes' challenge with quickest time

Mercedes could be challenging for race wins this season if not for the title after the German manufacturer's performance improved significantly on the penultimate day of the pre-season tests on Saturday. Lewis Hamilton posted the quickest time around the Catalunya circuit in bright sunny weather with a 1 minute 20.558 seconds, seven-tenths faster than the nearest rival, completing well over 100 laps in the day. 'The reliability, the mileage and the step-by-step improvements that we have achieved during the three tests are all very encouraging,' said Hamilton.
