Van der Garde ends opening day in gravel

Giedo van der Garde ended his opening day at Albert Park in the Turn 3 gravel trap, with the Caterham driver losing control of his car under braking. The Dutchman, who is making his debut this weekend, was left stranded after an anti-stall issue. "I locked up on the rear and lost it on the entry," van der Garde explained to Sky Sports. "Then, when I arrived in gravel I had an anti-stall problem. I couldn't continue and got stuck in the gravel. "It's getting better every lap as the track is rubbering in. We're still trying some stuff but it's getting better. We still have an hour of practice tomorrow." In the opening session, van der Garde wound up 0.114 seconds...
