Pirelli set to provide extra Friday tyres

Pirelli is closing in on a deal to provide teams running a rookie driver in the opening free practice session of a Grand Prix weekend with an extra set of tyres, theoretically providing sought-after mileage and increasing track activity at the same time. At present, each outfit is allocated 11 sets of tyres for the duration of an event, with one set of Primes being used in the opening session and returned to Pirelli. With action mostly restricted to the final hour of the 90 minute outing, rookies are expected to be given another, more durable compound in addition to the normal set of harder tyres.
