Cecotto banned from Monaco sprint race

Johnny Cecotto has been suspended from GP2′s sprint race in Monaco after being deemed to have caused the start crash in the feature race. Cecotto started from pole position but had slipped to second by Sainte Devote. The Venezuelan driver locked up and hit the barrier, taking out Fabio Leimer as well. Cecotto's mistake triggered a secondary accident which blocked the circuit and resulted in a lengthy stoppage and the retirement of eight of his rivals. A GP2 statement said that the stewards ‘judged that he failed to negotiate turn 1 and caused a collision at the start of this morning’s feature race, which saw a multiple car pile up before the race was red flagged to remove the...
