I just put a wheel off-line, says Maldonado

Williams driver Pastor Maldonado says his accident in the closing stages of the opening free practice session at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on Friday morning was simply caused by putting a wheel off-line on cold tyres, as opposed to a car failure. The Venezuelan, who made significant contact with the concrete wall on the exit of Turn 4, ended the day 14th fastest, two places ahead of team-mate Valtteri Bottas. "The conditions were tough," said Maldonado. "There was a dry line towards the end of FP1 but on cold tyres I put a wheel off-line and I crashed.
