Australia's 1st F1 star dies, age 93

Tony Gaze, the first Australian to compete in a round of the Formula 1 world championship and a decorated World War II pilot, has died at age 93. Gaze bore the distinction of being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross three times; having been the first Australian to fly jet aircraft operationally; the first Australian pilot to shoot down an enemy jet aircraft; and having escaped occupied France with the help of the French Resistance. Tony was also the first Allied pilot to land in France after D-Day.
