Pirelli to continue as Formula 1 tyre supplier

The FIA has today confirmed that Pirelli will continue as the sole tyre supplier to Formula 1, following a meeting of the World Motorsport Council. The announcement rubber stamps a deal many consider to have been completed for some time, following news last week that the Italian manufacturer was to continue its contracts for the GP2 and GP3 series. Although Michelin had registered its interest in taking on tyre supply responsibilities for the top echelon, Pirelli’s three year stint in the sport is set to be extended.
