Massa claims shock pole
Felipe Massa broke Mercedes' stranglehold on pole position in 2014 as Williams stunned the championship leaders in an Austrian GP qualifying hour that ultimately proved both forgettable - and costly - for Lewis Hamilton.Over five years on from his last pole when a championship challenger for Ferrari, Massa beat team-mate Valtteri Bottas to the head of the grid with a brilliant final lap of 1:08.759.
Not only were Mercedes knocked out the front row, Nico Rosberg to third third, but Lewis Hamilton will start down in ninth after running wide on his first Q3 run and then spinning on his decisive final effort.
Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo will start fourth and fifth respectively.
