Mercedes pledge to conquer reliability problems

SINGAPORE, Sept 22, 2014 (AFP) - Mercedes on Monday pledged it will do all it can to prevent poor reliability deciding the destiny of this year's drivers' world championship. The pledge came after a broken wiring loom forced Nico Rosberg to retire from Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix won by his team-mate Lewis Hamilton. The Briton's win enabled him to leap three points clear of Rosberg in the championship with five races remaining. Despite Hamilton's latest success the Mercedes team are deeply concerned that component failures can wreck one of the most thrilling title duels in recent times.
