Hamilton secures pole position in Russia

Mercedes AMG Petronas Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position for the inaugural Russian Grand Prix after setting the quickest time during qualifying at the Sochi Autodrom. Hamilton’s time of 1:38.513s was two-tenths of a second faster than Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, with Valtteri Bottas third quickest for Williams. Bottas was the fastest driver after the second sector of the lap but the Finn slid wide at the last turn and had to settle for third place, ahead of Jenson Button. Daniil Kvyat starred for Toro Rosso and set the fifth quickest time, while Kevin Magnussen was sixth but will drop five places due to a gearbox change.
