Horner confirms Vettel will run in Q1 in Austin
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says Sebastian Vettel will take part in qualifying for the United States Grand Prix, despite the fact that he will be forced to start the race from pitlane owing to an engine change.
The FIA confirmed on Friday that Vettel will take a full fresh power unit, meaning he must start Sunday’s race from the pitlane, effectively making qualifying meaningless for the German.
This led to speculation that he would simply sit out the session, meaning that owing to the absence of the Caterham and Marussia teams just 17 cars would attempt to qualify for the race, however, according to Horner, the German will run.
