FIA opens process for 2017 tyre deal

Pirelli Media Formula 1's governing body, the FIA, has formally opened the process for tyre companies to register an interest in becoming the sole official tyre supplier from 2017, according to the Official F1 website. Pirelli has supplied tyres since the start of 2011 but its current deal expires at the end of 2016, with the FIA opening the process for the period between 2017 and 2019. Pirelli has yet to confirm its interest in remaining in the sport though has repeatedly said that it is happy with Formula 1 in its present state.
