Vettel “surprised” by lack of pace to qualify down in ninth

Sebastian Vettel was shocked to qualify only ninth for the Belgian Grand Prix, on a miserable day for Ferrari who lost his teammate Kimi Raikkonen during the second segment of qualifying. Vettel qualified ninth, but should start eighth due to Romain Grosjean’s 5-place grid penalty. When asked what happened on his Q3 lap, Vettel replied: “Not much. I didn’t go off, so it was a normal lap. I was a little bit deep into the last corner, but, yeah, surprised as well that obviously it was only good enough for ninth. “We just couldn’t make the step from Q2 to Q3. It was a tight pack, so we went from being just in front to behind. That’s what happened.” Disaster for Raikkonen too...
