Pirelli: Tyre pressure limits “there for a reason”

Pirelli’s Paul Hembery has told Motorsport.com that the investigation into Mercedes potentially running with tyre pressures below its mandated limits would increase performance while raising a safety issue. Pirelli had previously warned F1 teams ahead of Monza that they cannot allow the pressures to drop below the prescribed minimum limit after cars leave the pits during the Italian GP. Teams were supposed to be above the 19.5 PSI limit at the start of the race. However, an investigation by the FIA showed that Hamilton's left-rear tyre was 0.3 PSI below that mark, with Rosberg's 1.1 PSI under.
