35 place grid penalty for Fernando Alonso

Russian Grand Prix – McLaren's Fernando Alonso will serve a 35 place grid penalty for this Sunday's Russian race in Sochi. Honda have brought an updated power unit to Sochi, utilising their remaining tokens available to them this season. Fernando Alonso received the new engine for FP1, triggering a grid penalty for the component changes. After FP1, McLaren swapped his engine back to his Suzuka power unit to run comparative tests. Alonso initially took a 25 place grid drop – 10 places for using a 10th internal combustion engine, 5 places for a new turbo charger, 5 places for a new MGU-H and 5 places for new control electronics.
