US GP: Rosberg fastest by 1.2s in wet FP1

Nico Rosberg dominated the first practice session for the US Grand Prix in Austin, held in wet-but-drying weather conditions. Rosberg led the field by 1.235s on intermediate tyres, ahead of the Red Bulls of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo. Points leader Lewis Hamilton ­– who can win the world championship this weekend – was fifth quickest, 1.7s off Rosberg's pace and behind Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz. Story of the session The 90-minute session started in wet conditions, although the showers had abated by the time the green flag flew. The air temperature was a 25C, the track surface was only one degree warmer, but the high humidity – 95 per cent – meant it was very slow to dry....
