Hamilton places fifth in Sports Personality of the Year

Lewis Hamilton finished the 2015 Sports Personality of the Year public vote in fifth place. The British driver won the award in 2014 with 209,920 votes from the public after claiming his second world championship. Hamilton won his third drivers' title this season and was again nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. However, he lost out to Tennis player Andy Murray on Sunday evening. The Scot won the award with 361,446 votes. Rugby league's Kevin Sinfield was runner-up and heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill finished third.
