Mercedes latest F1 team to pass 2016 crash tests
Mercedes has become the latest Formula 1 team to complete the FIA's tougher crash tests for 2016. The Brackley-based outfit, which is chasing its third consecutive championship double this season, joins a host of other outfits in completing the FIA's homologation requirement. Mercedes executive director Paddy Lowe said recently that the team had had to do a lot of work to comply with a new requirement for improved driver head protection. The change has meant a significant increase in the forces that the side of the cockpit must withstand. “It is a very significant increase,” he said in a video released by his Mercedes team. “It is five tonnes of load that the chassis has to take...
