F1 "dodged a bullet" with Bottas drain cover incident

Williams head of performance engineering Rob Smedley says that F1 has "dodged a bullet" after Valtteri Bottas struck a drain cover in the pitlane during final practice for the European Grand Prix. The metal cover was thrown into the air and narrowly missed marshals on the pit wall, while Bottas was forced to miss the whole session while repairs were made. "It was bargeboards, floor, sidepods, and then it put a hole through the radiator as well," Smedley told Motorsport.com.
