Pirelli 2017 tyre testing concludes in Abu Dhabi
Pirelli have concluded their 24 days of testing of their new tyres for 2017 with a final test day in Abu Dhabi. It saw three 2015 cars from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, modified to replicate the extra downforce of next year’s cars, run a variety of compounds and structures around the Yas Marina Circuit. The new tyres are 25% wider than the current ones, as Formula One bids to reach lap times up to five seconds a lap quicker for 2017. Such an increase in the downforce and stress on the tyres required extensive testing from Pirelli, who also wanted to create a more consistent tyre with a less severe drop off in performance to allow drivers to push harder during races.
