Fernando Alonso rates 2012 as best F1 season, places 2016 third

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso says he rates the 2012 Formula 1 season as his best yet, putting 2016 in third place. The Spaniard doesn’t place either of his title-winning seasons in 2005 and 2006 in the top three. Following his success with Renault (and one controversial season at McLaren), he moved to Ferrari for 2010. Over the next five seasons Alonso finished runner-up three times, including in 2012 – where he won three races and scored nine further podiums.
