Spanish GP: Hamilton beats Vettel to pole by 0.051s

Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona after beating Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to the top spot. Hamilton set the early pace in the Q3 shootout with a lap of 1m19.149s, a quarter of a second clear of Valtteri Bottas, who made a big error exiting the final chicane. Vettel was only fourth fastest after the first run, behind teammate Kimi Raikkonen, but complained of derating – meaning a lack of electrical energy – on the straight. On the second runs, neither Hamilton nor Bottas improved, as Vettel leapt to second on 1m19.200s.
