Shield appears in public for the first time

The first images of the 'Shield' F1 cockpit protection system appeared on Thursday at Silverstone ahead of its track debut at the British Grand Prix. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel will be the fist F1 driver to trial the new device, which F1 bosses aim to introduce next year, having provisionally shelved plans to use the Halo. The four-time champion is expected to complete a handful of laps in the opening practice session tomorrow before it is removed so he can begin his preparation for the grand prix.
