Bottas takes Abu Dhabi GP pole after late Hamilton error

Valtteri Bottas will start the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from pole position after beating Mercedes Formula 1 teammate Lewis Hamilton in the final stage of qualifying at the Yas Marina Circuit. After trailing Hamilton throughout practice in Abu Dhabi, Bottas was able to respond in qualifying and claim the fourth pole position of his F1 career, aided by a mistake by his teammate at the very end of the session. Bottas drew first blood in Q3 by beating Hamilton by almost two-tenths of a second with his first flying lap, leaving the four-time champion with work to do if he wanted to capture a fourth pole position at the Yas Marina Circuit.
