FIA President Jean Todt wants simpler F1 engines FIA President Jean Todt has admitted that the current hybrid Formula 1 engine regulations need to be simplified. Introduced in 2014, F1 boasts 1.6-litre V6 turbo-charged engines with kinetic (MGU-K) and heat (MGU-H) energy recovery systems. The formula has proved unpopular with fans, with the muted engine note decreasing the auditory experience and prompting calls for a return to the high-revving V8 engines.
