Verstappen wins Austria F1 DOTD award after Kubica glitch
Austrian Grand Prix victor Max Verstappen has been crowned ‘Driver of the Day’ after Formula 1 confirmed a technical glitch meant Robert Kubica was wrongly declared the winner. Verstappen fought back from a sluggish getaway to charge through the order, passing Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc with three laps to go to claim a historic win for Red Bull and new engine suppliers Honda. Following the race on Sunday, F1 had originally stated that Williams driver Kubica had won the award - which is decided in an online fan vote - but it has since announced that a “technical error” resulted in Kubica being “incorrectly allocated a number of votes”.
