Esteban Gutierrez adds Formula E duties to Mercedes role

Mercedes has confirmed that Esteban Gutierrez will act as the team’s reserve and development programme for its nascent Formula E project. Mercedes will enter the championship for the 2019/20 season, which begins next weekend in Saudi Arabia. The marque has recruited ex-McLaren F1 racer Stoffel Vandoorne, who competed for Mercedes-linked HWA last season, and newly-crowned F2 champion Nyck de Vries to spearhead its driver line-up. Gutierrez started 59 grands prix for Sauber and Haas, as well as three Formula E races, but since 2018 has been affiliated with Mercedes.
