Brundle: No surprise if Russell to Merc announced soon
Martin Brundle wouldn't be surprised if Mercedes announced George Russell as Lewis Hamilton's 2022 team-mate as early as next weekend's British GP. The Brackley squad confirmed one half of its 2022 line-up at the Austrian GP, revealing that Hamilton had signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at the team until the end of the 2023 season. The only question left to answer was who would be his team-mate. That has been Valtteri Bottas since 2017 when he was called up to replace Nico Rosberg after the German shocked the motorsport world by announcing days after winning the 2016 World title that he was hanging up his helmet.
