Verstappen won the world title despite these setbacks in 2021

Where Lewis Hamilton could blame himself at the lost world title (in combination with some bad luck in Abu Dhabi), Max Verstappen has had mostly bad luck. This article highlights these areas.  With a record 18 podium finishes in a single season, it's clear that Verstappen was particularly consistent in 2021. In fact, of all those podiums, Verstappen didn't finish third once. He always finished first or second.
