Formula 1 cancels Russian GP contract

Sebastian Vettel and Russian president Vladimir Putin at the 2015 Russian Grand Prix Russia has lost its place on the Formula 1 calendar going forward after its contract to host the event was cancelled. A short statement from the sport’s commercial rights holder announced: “Formula 1 can confirm it has terminated its contract with the Russian Grand Prix promoter meaning Russia will not have a race in the future.” While the announcement has no immediate impact, as this year’s event had already been cancelled, it does mean the planned event near Saint Petersburg will not go ahead next year as planned. It’s the latest in a series of moves against Russia by the motorsport world....
