Mercedes balks: 'We already knew that soft/medium one-stop could work'

Mercedes had one of its strongest GP weekends in Mexico, but a chance to beat the ironclad Max Verstappen was not in the cards. In retrospect, Mercedes engineer Andrew Shovlin sees that with a different strategy there would have offered more of a chance. Article continues under ad George Russell and Lewis Hamilton showed on Saturday in Mexico that Mercedes was the challenger for victory in Mexico. On Sunday, the team decided to start on the yellow medium tyres to "be sure" of an easy one-stop.
