Hamilton hindered by significant floor damage in Austrian GP

©Mercedes Michael Delaney 01/07/2024 at 09:0601/07/2024 at 10:15 Lewis Hamilton endured an eventful Austrian Grand Prix marked by on-track incidents, a penalty and a damaged car that left the seven-time world champion fourth at the checkered flag. From fifth on the grid, Hamilton enjoyed a strong start, gaining the measure of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz at the first corner. However, having accomplished the pass on the outside of the corner, Hamilton was asked by his team to hand the position. The Briton ran consistently in fifth until his first pitstop, but a messy entry into the pitlane yielded a five-second penalty for crossing the white line.
