Rosberg heads Hamilton in first session

Mercedes AMG Petronas Nico Rosberg set the quickest time during a quiet opening practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix, as Mercedes finished comfortably clear of its opposition. Rosberg set a time of 1:26.828 to edge out Lewis Hamilton by 0.070s, though both drivers had a couple of off-track excursions as they got to grips with the conditions. Sebastian Vettel was ‘best of the rest’ for Ferrari in third place, albeit 0.978s down on pace setter Rosberg. Kimi Räikkönen posted the fourth best time for Ferrari – narrowly behind his team-mate – having complained of his seat becoming too hot.
