Sauber encouraged despite Ericsson practice smash

Belgian Grand Prix – Both Sauber drivers finished the day in the top ten. That's despite Marcus Ericsson crashing heavily towards the end of FP2. Running the newer Ferrari engine spec for the first time this season since Ferrari introduced the upgrade at the Canadian Grand Prix, Sauber appear to have made an encouraging step forward based on their pace in FP2. Running without issues, both drivers worked on their setups throughout FP1 before ramping up their pace in the afternoon session. Putting in 18 laps with a best time of 1.50.709, Ericsson finished the day in P8. He left his team with work to do though, after the Swede destroyed his car in a crash at Pouhon.
