Pirelli: Rosberg failure caused by "external source"

Pirelli is adamant that Nico Rosberg's tyre failure in Belgian Grand Prix practice on Friday was a one-off caused by an unknown external source. Following investigations that continued overnight ahead of Saturday's action at Spa-Francorchamps, the Italian company was able to completely rule out a failure caused by a structural weakness. In a statement issued while final practice was underway, Pirelli said there had been no sign of structural problems on any of the tyres used by Mercedes or any of the other teams. Furthermore, a close look at video footage of Rosberg's tyre as it failed suggested that it was consistent with an external cut. Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said:...
