Hamilton: Even my Dad told me to stay put at McLaren
Niki Lauda famously recounted that after months of tapping up Lewis Hamilton to move from McLaren to Mercedes, the deal was done on the night of the 2012 Singapore Grand Prix, hours after he retired from the race while leading due to a gearbox failure. Legend has it that after that, Lewis agreed to put pen to paper and seal a deal that shocked the F1 world at the time. English media were up in arms, questioning the driver's career choice, predicting doom and gloom.
